Adam - if nothing else, this stands as a reminder to myself that I need to keep the focus on the big picture. If you stare at nothing but closeups, you'll never truly know what you're looking at.

Those feeds you missed for a week? You didn't really miss them - they missed you. It's not incumbent on us as consumers of messages to carry the obligation for success. Be open to ideas, and know where you can get them when you need them.

Ike,

Precisely as you write...it's why we must wean ourselves off the penchant of RSS-ing *every single feed* out there, keeping up with every mass of pixellated word generated in the marketplace for ideas. It's staggering how many posts I can potentially go through on a given day. All of them contain a nugget of goodness -- but to wade through all the words, the phraseology, the letters. You see?

This was something I pondered deeply as I recently returned from my trip out East. What happens when life intervenes and you don't have time to read blogs for a week? Does this mean I'm out of the game? How to do the triage?

Nice going with this post...getting us to think a little more deeply about future complications.

I second the idea, though, that I'm going to be continuing to do what I've always done...still, you land a solid point.

Sorry, Entropy. I don't know of a single place where the truly important remains "above the fold" all the time.

We are seeing a fundamental generational shift, though. Our ancestors who knew the answers were supplanted by the ones who could figure out answers to the new questions. Soon, those of us who can figure things out will be superceded by those who can search and find relevant existing answers.

There will still be a need for pure reason, but in the Age of Search, you can find the answer faster than calculating it. (Provided, of course, the answer already exists AND is correct.)

"Real news with real impact" - my google search (for real)

"Emergency messages rarely matter beyond the news cycle." - so true; plus even the news with real impact instead is usually drowned in the sea of noise out there; signal to noise indeed

"but this is the sort of news that has a major impact on how we operate as communicators." - well at least it was mentioned, so it did make it to the news. I wonder often how much of the "real news with real impact" actually ever even make it to top of the pyramid early on. Still I often wonder why I hope it be otherwise.

You said yourself, "And I won’t even know exactly why for quite some time." What hopes does the - average communicator have? If even the brightest have difficulty predicting or understanding the impact of events and their significance. Afteral, between mere greed, the increasing noise, devious misinformation and the huge sea of ignorance I am not surprised "real news with real impact" take their time to reach the limelight. You couldn't be more right.

"Real news with real impact typically happens slowly" - my hat off to you.

Anyway, loved the post - I guess it's true after all, we are all seeking to re-affirm our own beliefs, and that sir, you did most handsomely. You got yourself a new reader.

Which leads me to my original google search query. Would you be kind enough to point me towards a news website that comes close to "Real news with real impact". Any suggestion would be welcomed. There is so much out there, it would take a life time of reading for me to finally find one. Maybe I just get incredibly lucky and you know of one.

I thought it Google's spin on open was BS. They got their hat handed to them on apiece of spectrum that's going to be worth 10x that. Google doesn't know what they are doing any more and they have failed to innovate over the recent past years. Instead they acquire and kill companies like Jaiku and put out bogus press releases about Android, which still hasn't appeared.
