I'm with you, sir. This kind of stuff drives me crazy. Pardon me a Grandpa Simpson moment (I'm all of 35), but back when I edited my high school's newspapers, no WAY I would have gotten away with running a story like this.

My own view: the old-line news media, and above all television news, have played to the lower instincts of t.v. viewers for so long that they -- both the media members and the viewers -- are often incapable of telling the difference between a "good story" and *actual* news.

THe gas stories help take your mind of the rice shortages.

;-p

I’m also crying foul here. I have NEVER seen someone drive off. Even though I live in NJ where customers are not allowed by law to pump their won, thus, the attendant controls the transaction, I drive all over other states.

How are people driving off AFTER they've paid? What stations allow you to pay after anymore?

Only thing I see now are stations in a given area overcharging, forcing drivers to create lines at other stattions, and that's it.

This is a great example of why people don't watch the media the way they used to watch it. This is why it is scary that we depend on the media to cover tough topics such as elections, primaries, etc. The fact that you can pick a news channel that aligns completely with your beliefs proves that there is no objective reporting, which is what journalists are supposed to do. (At least that is what I was taught.) It appears that the media has gone back to its roots of "yellow journalism", which is now called "sensationalism". Thank goodness for the Internet. It at least allows one to find all kinds of information to make an informed decision, if one is willing to take the time.
