All of my various web domains are hosted on Lunarpages (pigott.name, positiveposition.com, firehousebutts.com, shenlungkungfu.com). They are incredibly affordable and the customer service is outstanding. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone, even those who have never had their own hosting account. Lunarpages has got it all.

WordpressI am running this off a great little engine called Wordpress. It’s free, and open source, and there’s thousands of talented programmers and designers who are keeping it fresh with ideas, innovations, and security. Oh, and if you don’t have a webspace of your own, you can go to Wordpress.com and set up a free one.

Here are the Wordpress Plugins that I have currently active -

  • Akismet - Comment Spam shield
  • Audio Player - makes embedding the occasional sound file a snap
  • Bad Behavior - sniffs out spam tactics as the first line of defense
  • Comment Referrers - More info about commenters in my notification emails
  • del.icio.us links - Displays a feed of things I thought were cool.
  • Dofollow - if you comment here, I’ll track back to your site
  • Hide Email Addresses - automatically hides e-mail within Javascript
  • Gravatars 2 - Add your picture to your comments across the world
  • Inline Ajax Comments - Lets you read the comments without navigating away
  • One-click Installer - installs new plugins or themes without the need for FTP access.  If you’re a newbie, get someone to put this on for you.
  • Pull-Quotes - Those really cool boxes out on the side that highlight text
  • Share This - Allows readers to submit links to various sites, or send e-mail to a friend
  • Sidebar Widgets - Allows me to drag-and-drop my sidebar elements, so I don’t get paper cuts snipping code
  • Simpletags - makes it easy to add Technorati tags within a post
  • Database backup - Because you have to

Sugar and Spice:

The widgets, that allow me to re-organize with great ease:

  • Feedburner Stats: Not only keeps a count, but also re-directs my default feeds to the Feedburner equivalents
  • Akismet Stats: A nice reminder of all the unwanted crap you didn’t have to wade through to get to my intentional crap.
  • Most Commented Posts - so you can see where all the fuss was
