Friendz
What does it mean to be a “friend?”
If you’re young, and growing up online, the word can mean many different things. And there are other words that can cloud the issue: followers, acquaintances, allies, supporters…
So think for yourself how you can categorize and differentiate the terms. I broke things down this way, but it’s not the only way:
- People you like
- People who like you
- Over a long period time

But in the process of putting together the award, a group of media relations professionals and broadcasting and publishing executives and news reporters became aquainted for life on that “American Red Cross Public Relations Committee”.
It has been interesting to see how many of those people were only my aquaintaces when I had a by line or call letters behind my name and who were, to use the counseling term, the people who gave me “unconditional positive regard” - were really true friends over the years.
A percentage of us are still helping each other today. And that Red Cross Committee really instilled in us a loyalty to the American Red Cross and to news media and public relations professionals working together in the Birmingham Area during a disaster.
