Well put, Ike. In our politics today, we’ve let partisanship and culture-war fights do way too much of the driving in terms of how we frame our master narratives. Often, we don’t even reach the point of “Well, I respect your position, but you and I have different philosophies about what the government should do here.”
Instead, we get hung up at the point of mutual incomprehension / dismissal because we cannot even imagine how those on the other side of the political fence could entertain the notions that drive their thinking.
Let’s hope that we can do better in the next seven years than we have in the past seven.
