Journalisim

I like the Cranky Geeks, but the irony here is too delicious not to share.  The title of this roundtable discussion is “Do bloggers need training in journalism?”:

At the very least, let’s get them spell-check.

  1. Always makes me wonder when I see misspelled words on tv . . . And this was a funny misteak to see.

  2. Good catch. I listen to Cranky Geeks but I rarely actually watch the video. Mostly a good show.

  3. LOL! This could make it to failblog.org 🙂

  4. Hi gang,

Maybe I’m dense (likely), but where was the syntax error? I think they’ve changed it since Ike’s post…

In any event, I listened to it 1.333333333 (ad infinitum) times, and I was shocked by the mainstream-ness of several of the terms being discussed by the panelists (and I was jotting these down):

** blogosphere (yes, I use it as well, but look at how common it’s become! Yompin’ Yiminy!).
    ** Web2.0.
    ** Opine.
    ** Hammered.

I mean, these were words (as I recall them), back in the late ’90s when I was still in college, which hadn’t even been created, or in very limited usage/parlance…

Man, we’ve come a long way…and, um, btw — what was the girl’s name and why was she pumping Arrington’s site with reckless abandon? I counted three times — did anyone count more?

Mind you, the gal held her own against the Stalingrad-like blitz. Way to hold yer own, girlfriend!

  5. As of 3pm Central time on Wednesday, the misspelling is still there. Look :33 in.

And yes, your observations about the evolving language are spot-on.

  6. Hi Ike,

My overworked peepers…yep — it’s still there…I’m going to second Raanan’s bit from the other day — can’t help it, especially being from this part of the world — you think they wanted people to catch the error? Intentional-like?

  7. I love it.

  8. Hey, I’m loving it too!! Something I can gripe about!!!
