Simply Complex
“Making the complex simple through better communication.”
What exactly does that mean, anyway?
If you’re coming here looking for scholarly or hip analysis about communications, you’re going to get it, but not directly.
I want to have fun, and that means I’m going to write about things that intrigue me. Along the way, I’ll try to explain why those concepts are cool (to me, anyway.) And that process of explaining the complex, simply, is really just an exercise in communication.
So, welcome to my sandbox. If, as you read, you find a quirky analogy or concept that hit home or you can use, then by all means do so. The step beyond communicating a concept is the assimilation by the receiver. (Resistance is futile.)

The Accidental Tourist

Usually, I have a good idea why people come to this site. I use the free Sitemeter tool to track hits, and as I generally have low traffic and no ads, that’s decent enough for me. Sitemeter tracks the last 100 visitors, and let’s me know (among other things) the page they hit, how long
Shaking things up

It was time for a new look. I liked the old look, but there was something about the old “old look” that was missing. Yet, the “old” old look lacked several features. This look will get some tweaking in the meantime.
Is it time to close the barn doors?

Honestly, it’s a question that doesn’t get asked enough. “Is it time to shut down this site?” I’m not so much concerned about content and direction for my writing; indeed, I am happy contributing within niches elsewhere. It’s my question about the format itself. I write, I share, I communicate through several media now. I

The issue here was a plugin, one that tries to minimize the load on servers by relying on Javascript libraries housed at Google. The “Use Google Libraries” plugin needed updating, and that new version arrived tonight. We will return you soon to pithy quotes and unusual perspectives. (Provided you have a computer monitor compatible with
More WordPress Weirdness

I have diagnosed part of my problem. The QuickRSS plugin I had active on my site was not playing nicely with the built-in RSS fetch in the WordPress 2.8 administration panel. I deactivated the plugin, and that problem is solved. However, I still have no access to the visual editor.
Temporarily Vanilla

I just upgraded to the new version of WordPress, and for now, I recommend you wait. Something funky is going on in the background, so for the time being I bring you Retro-Occam. Plain vanilla theme, plain vanilla plugins.
Chemical Spill

My essay, Chemical Warfare, was just a little too Social Media heavy for here, so it’s up over at Media Bullseye. Give it a read if you wish, and comment where you’d like.
Minor tweaks and fixes

I’m still fixing a few things here, trying to get the most out of the new features while recapturing some of the neat look-and-feel of the last incarnation of Occam’s Razr. I took down the Thoughtful Blather page, as it really was no longer high enough to be thoughtful nor low enough for blather. I
Little changes

I’m still making incremental changes to the look and feel. I’m still not sold on the new look, so I figured out how to return the sidebar to something a little more familiar. Please share any suggestions or comments about the aesthetics. I’m also trying to do a little more with video. Since what I

I have not abandoned this space, just getting ready for a little renovation. Meanwhile, I’m still writing, even if it’s subject matter that doesn’t typically land here. Go check out my rant about Social Security.
